So I’ve been troubleshooting this for a while now, basically since I bought this… tried new cells, manually charging all the cells to full, etc., but now I think I see what’s wrong… these traces look broken, right?
Is this just a flaw with the design, or is there something I could have done to prevent this? I suspect that maybe it might have had something to do with wrapping my own cells at first (I’ve since bought new), seeing as cells ones I original wrapped were a much tighter fit. Maybe that caused them to get stuck in a bad position or something, I don’t know.
Either way, I wanted to share, see if anyone else has experienced this. If you’re running into balancing issues and you don’t know why, maybe think about checking the traces… also, if you have any suggestions for fixing this, let me know.
Aren’t these traces supposed to act as fuses? I remember reading in the crowdfunding page that this is why it’s important to make sure all cells are properly balanced.
this is not a flaw in the design this is just of a good example of a security that triggered. The trace plays the role of a fuse and triggered because you have placed one cell in the opposit direction. When you closed the pack you may have seen a little spark or have smell a weird odor. The good thing is that if this had happened without this security you might have triggered a thermal runaway.
to solve this, either you can add a little solder after having scratch the protective layer to put the copper naked (i wouldn’t advise if you are not confident and in any case it’s not clean).
Okay, this has been informative! I’ve managed to repair it with some solder as suggested, and things finally look good. I’m going to test it for a month or so, and if it keeps working, I guess I’ll buy the replacement shells, just to ensure it’s safe going forward. Thanks for all your help!
