Over current in charge. After assembly, one of my batteries is triggering "over current in charge"fault. A reset put the LEDs back to green. But after about two minutes of charge, the same fault occurs. Currently the following version for a Bosch system using a Bosch factory charger. Still trying to get my second battery on line.
Ok, so both batteries up and running. Left battery I believe needs a software update to correct the charging fault. It’s showing a 29% charge and has 2 green lights, so it seems to be correct. The right side battery is connected to wifi and is updated to the same version of software as the left, 1.12.3, however is stuck in 4 red LEDs. I’ve reset it countless times as I did to get the left finally working. I’ll keep tinkering and update. @alex. Please help.
@alex So after a root reset (holding root button for 10 sec) the red lights cleared and I now have two green lights a 27%. Now I have both batteries equal. They both go sleep at the same time, both have two green LEDs and both give the same “Over Current in Charge” fault.
Still haven’t quite figured out the charge issue. This is the label from the charger I’m using. Is anyone else here experiencing the same issue?
Hello,
Sorry for my late reply. This is abnormal because 4A should be working without a problem. It comes either from the BMS that fails to read the right current, or it comes from a bad configuration of the cells that you are using. It seems you are using Samsung 35E cells.is this what you setup ?
To rule out the problem of a BMS that would be failing, could you monitor the amps that go inside the battery in Bluetooth while you plug the charger?
Red light and the 3rd light is blue
Tried the 2nd battery and the exact same thing and readings.
Hello,
This is strange because with Samsung 35E, the maximum amp that is set up is 2A/cell. So with four cells in parallel, you should be able to charge at 8A.
If the behavior was only on one battery, I would have said it is a failing BMS that doesn’t measure well the current. But the fact it happens on two batteries at the same time makes me feel it’s the charger.
Now when I look at the reading, it looks like 4 amps is good. The only thing that might happen is that the charger pushes more than 8 amps for a short period of time, either when you plug it in or at some time.
Do you have another charger to test ?
Hello, yes I have 5 ebikes with the same system and so I have 5 chargers. I’ve tried two different ones as pictured, then switched them out with each other. Same result.
If you still have some patience, can you try the following:
Configure one of the batteries with another model of cell just for the test, we will change it back just to see after, and use Sony VTC 6 instead of the Samsung. It will imply that you open one so that you can press on the bottom behind the LED.
If this works, it would mean that there is some problem in the configuration.
Sure, I will give this a try and report back soon.
Batteries are fully charged. After unplugging and waiting 5 or so minutes, the green lights turned off on both batteries. They are now at rest and I believe ready to be installed on the bike. @Alex let me know if I should leave the battery settings to where we made the adjustment or of I should set back to the Samsung cells.
So you mean that when you set up the parameters with the other cells, the charge happens correctly? If it is so it means that there is something wrong in the configuration. However, you should go back to Samsung cells as this is the cells that you are using. On the long term, it could cause some problem not to use the right parameter. Can you try putting back Samsung as a parameter and see if everything is good now?
Thanks again for your patience.
Sure, I have reconfigured the settings on both batteries to the Samsung cell configuration and plugged them both in. Both appear to be charging correctly without tripping an error code. Thank you so much for your assistance. I am super excited to get the batteries mounted on my bike. I will post the installation process on both my IG and Bluesky if you are interested and want to give me a follow.
ok something weir must have happened on the app. we will check (but it seems a rare bug as it is the first time it happened). Sorry again for the time it took.
