Instability issues - Bosch performance line gen2 and Purion display

Hi, I have a Tern GSD S10 (gen 1) and I am overall happy with my battery. Had to do some modifications on the frame to get everything going with the bosch adapter.

After the last update, the power button on the display successfully starts the battery, but I can’t turn it off via the Purion display. Occasionally (approc 1/3 of the times) I have to re-seat the battery to remove power from the system to get the motor going, the display works, but the engine does not provide power. Occasionally i experience power “blips” where the engine and display reboots while riding, have not found what causes it.

Anything that can be done towards this? Anything I could do to expedite this?

I cannot turn the battery off manually on my Purion display either. I believe it is none functional using Bosch compatibility mode. It really hasn’t caused me even the slightest issue as it I always remove my battery from the bike when I park up. It didn’t even go into SLEEP mode when I first installed it but lately it has been doing so. I did report the issue and they said they could well be addressing it in a future firmware upgrade. My firmware is still v1.7 and has never updated to v1.12 as it has supposed to do. However I find v1.7 stable and functional on everything put the power button so I am happy to leave well enough alone. As they say ‘if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.’ I am happy with my purchase after fixing minor niggles. I actually appreciate the fact that these little ‘niggles’ can easily be rectified. After all we bought it on the ‘self fix’ properties which, so far, I have been able to rectify in just a few short minutes. If it were sealed manufactured battery I would have been tearing my hair out.

Hmm, I guess I must double-check the FW version when I get back in town. So you have had no issuses in relation to the battery powering the bike, but not the engine? Might I ask which Bosch powertrain you are on?

Bosch Gen 3 Activeline.

I had to check, I’m at V1.12, the bike parking is close enough to my wifi, so updates are automatic once i park. I’ll see if i can revert some versions and see what happens.

Thanks for the info @Biffo1262, fun to see the enthusiasm on this forum! I also saw the post now about dual batteries, so I might have to take a weekend and install the second battery

Yes you need version 1.7 firmware. It will solve your issue other than being able to turn it off manually. If you leave it on the bike it will go to sleep eventually it’s just that the off button on the display is rendered non-functional; not really an issue. I’ve been using the battery for over three months now and once the initial teething troubles were sorted I haven’t had any issue other than going down a rather large pothole which brought up an error message. I was only half a mile from him by then and was just going to ride home without assistance but I removed the battery, waited 30 seconds and it cleared or so I thought. Anyway it was enough to power back on and ride home. When I can to charge it the software said it was in ERROR state and not in Bosch mode. I had to split the battery and press the reset button and it rectified itself immediately. It took about 5 minsin total. I haven’t had any problems since. Can you imagine it happening to a proprietary sealed unit? I would be tearing my hair out. The only thing I have found is the power delivery doesn’t seem to be as efficient as my original Bosch 300Wh battery in that considering the Infinite is 550Wh compared to 300Wh you would expect a great increase in range which in fact it does predict but in practice I only get about a 15 mile increase where it I expected and it predicts almost double my original 50 mile range. The strange thing is like yesterday I returned and the software stated 41% charge. I leave it overnight not charging and it’s now 54% charge. This happens EVERY time. Now my concern is that when the battery gets to a very low INDICATED state is it actually accurate and is it going to shut down only to leave overnight and find it actually shut down when it really has about 13% charge remaining that I couldn’t use at the time? The only way to find out of course IS to ride it till it does shut off and put my spare battery on to get home. Then check the Infinite next day and see if it has happened again. If it still shows flat then fair enough but if it does show 13% charge or so then we have an issue which has to be the BMS. I’ll do it when the weather warms up because due to a neck injury I have no feeling in my fingers plus arthritis and the cold cripples them.
