So two months in and after a two week lay up for a hand injury I had almost finished fully charged the battery showing 100% but still charging 4 days ago but something unforseen cropped up….like the head gasket on my daughter’s car. No garage wanted the business saying it was too labour intensive so this 77 year old repaired it himself in two days saving himself £1,200. It seems they are all fitters these days not mechanics. Anyway I diverse. I decided to go out today instead and so I thought to finish topping up the battery and expected it to have dropped to about 95% of charge as normal. To my delight it was still showing a 100% charge and only needed a quick top up which only took 25 minutes before charging stopped. Previously it would lose an ‘indicated’ 3% of charge overnight. It would seem, or so I think, the BMS has been quietly sat there doing it’s thing for the two week lay off. Previously when riding the indicated charge would drop one bar of the five bars on my Purion display between 8 and 10 miles just in ECO and Off mode which compared to my 300Wh Bosch batteries 15 miles was quite disconcerting especially for a 540Wh battery. Today it was very cold but using the same style of riding I did 21 miles on the one bar. Software showed 69% charge remaining which is far more in line with a 540Wh battery thall other previous software results. So as I say, I presume the BMS is literally sorting itself out even though the battery isn’t in use. So my advice is not to fret about early performance indicators, even the overnight charge losses and just use the battery running it right down as often as you can and fully recharging which gives the clever BMS to ‘learn’ the performance and parameters of the battery. It might take a good few rides and cycle of charges over at least a couple of months before you can trust any indicated readings. However as with all ‘range’ projections on a full battery the projected range is always wildly optimistic. If I really could get the 280 miles of projected range it indicated this morning I would be an extremely happy man. ![]()

. It also states I had 188 miles left in it when I got back…….
. …..just a tad optimistic.
