My issue ’seems’ to be one of misreporting the state of charge. For example I did a ride of 26 miles yesterday over undulating terrain and finished with a reported 42% charge which I thought rather low for how I had used it. This evening and without going anywhere near a charger till now it shows 56% which would be more in line with usage. This happens to one extent or another every time I ride. Has anyone else got a similar issue and what is causing it?
If the voltage drops in the cold, and the percentage is calculated from the voltage… that seems logic.
Bosch Batteries seem to calculate the percentage differently and the percentage doesn’t change in this way.
i agree with Eric - cold will not just effect use, but reporting of battery life.
My battery is actually wrapped in a vivarium heat mat powered by a USB powerpack and kept warm during rides. I doubt it keeps it at room temp but since using the mat on my old Bosch battery I have found it has extended my range. I have never run my Infinite without the heat mat so I can’t say if it makes any difference or not. I have never run the battery out so I have no idea if power would cut off at the ‘indicated zero’ or actual zero or even in fact there is such a thing when the battery is indicated as depleted. It would be interesting to test what would happen so I’ll test that out in the near future. It’s not hard to propel without power but I do have a spare battery so it’s not any great problem seeing just what happens.
quite interesting. Have you tracked the temperature reading of the gouach?
I don’t check it continuously only periodically. When it is really cold the is a noticeable improvement in range between it being warmed and being unheated. Range seems to be comparable with a warm Summer day using my original Bosch battery. Having only had the Infinite since November I have no Summer figures to compare it with but I can really notice the difference between heated and unheated during this last Winter. It also prevents is being subjected to extremes of cold which can only benefit the cells. Keeping it cooler in really hot weather is something I have yet to figure out but I don’t believe USB fans will be effective. I am thinking along the lines of an evaporation cooling jacket.
