I received my Bosch adapter today and have already installed it (exactly as shown in the video tutorial). I also switched to BOSCH in the app. However, there are two problems:
1. The original Bosch charger doesn’t fully fit into the new adapter (it’s about 1–2 mm too tight).
2. When I use the original Bosch charger, nothing happens — the battery doesn’t charge.
Have you already received your adapter, and are you experiencing the same issues?
I have exactly the same problem. We have waited all this time and they have been sent out without checking the plug actually fits!!! I have here a very expensive paperweight.
I also can’t understand how something like this could be overlooked during quality control. I can’t clearly see which part is causing the issue either. At least I’ve probably figured out why it’s not charging — because my firmware is still version 1.0.1. However, even though the battery is connected to the internet, no update is being offered.
I’ve now sent another email to contact@gouach.com and hope they can at least fix the software issue quickly. The hardware probably needs to be replaced, because I really don’t see why I should have to start filing or modifying the new adapter myself.
Solution. It seems the plastic separator blade on the plug is fouling the receiver in the socket. Either trim a little if the plug a bit at a time until it fits or, as I did, with a sharp craft knife cut out the short 90° return but in the socket and then it will push all the way in. Unfortunately this is a 3D printed socket rather than moulded and it seems to be a slight error in the programming. It’s a quick and simple fix
I’ve had it. The wires have been in and off so many times now trying to wake the battery up that the Bluetooth aerial lead connector has fallen off. The whole damned thing has been a debacle from day one and I’ve had a belly full. I should just have bought a new Bosch battery in the first place. All mine is going back as nothing about this seems to work. The reverse engineering doesn’t seem too well engineered. At 77 years of age and in heart failure I can do without this ‘10 minute setup’. Ten minutes …..what a joke.
I got the same issue with the connector. I used a sharp small knife in order to remove the plastic which was not allowing the Bosch charger to go up to the end. After that it was fine for the charger.
Once done I tried to charge the battery to wake it up but it didn’t worked… To wake it up, I unscrewed the pack and separate tge two parts and then reassemble them and screw them again. At Themis time it woke up the BMS ans I directly use the Bluetooth to configure it. Then it was fine with the charger and I was able to fully charge the battery.
Time to try it on the bike (a 2018 kalkhoff with bosch proline plus motor). After many work on the frame (I had to machine some parts, I succeeded to plug it on the bike but the controler did not recognized the battery (see picture)… I’m for now waiting some help to find why… if somebody has an idea it will be very helpful (Gouach team? :)).
It is the same with me - and I think this is the problem. Alex from gouach mentions in his youtube video (https://youtu.be/C4iVDj8muvQ?feature=shared) that the firmware version has to be 1.4 or higher. But I can’t get any other firmware. I am waiting for an answer from gouach-Team.
Thanks I’ll work on it. I finally connected the battery to my hotspot but I do not found the firmware update button… if somebody have some idea it will be great.
I received an email from Alex at Gouach today.
I had written to him about my firmware issue and also provided the battery ID – he was then able to trigger the update remotely. For this to work, the battery just needs to be connected to the internet. When I woke up my battery, the LEDs first turned pink and then red, and it took quite a while (so be patient), but now my battery is running firmware version 1.7.2. I set the adapter to “Bosch” and, as described, removed the small plastic piece in the connector with a knife. Now the original Bosch charger fits perfectly and charges as it should.
Next, I’ll be installing the battery in the bike. Hopefully everything will go smoothly. Wish me luck!
I’ve made some more progress and wanted to share my experiences with you.
I’ve now successfully mounted the battery on my first e-bike, and here’s what I found:
As shown in the video, you have to saw off a small part of the old bike mount. Then you can attach the new lock (or upper part) using just one screw.
Everything holds in place and the lock closes (and can be opened with the key), but the battery moves around noticeably more than the original Bosch battery.
In the original set (not the Bosch extension), there was also a rubber part included – unfortunately, I have no idea where it’s supposed to go, as this is never mentioned anywhere (the documentation is really poor in general). Maybe some of you know where it belongs – perhaps that would help the battery fit more tightly?!
The new top part for Bosch was completely useless – I didn’t use or wasn’t able to use any of it. At first, I thought the original lock would fit into it so that you wouldn’t need a new key, but unfortunately that’s not the case – too bad!
The bike works with the new battery – you can ride it and the correct charge level is displayed, but when you turn off the bike via the display, the battery (and therefore the bike’s light) stays on until the battery turns itself off after a while (there’s still room for improvement in the firmware here).
All in all, I’m satisfied, and I think the product and the idea behind it are simply brilliant. Still, there are a few issues, and most importantly, there’s no user manual.
Hey Alex, thanks for your explanations, I’ve yet to start installing my battery and it’s really helpful tingele your experiences. From what I remember that rubber piece is to mount an Apple AirTag in the top part of the battery holder - so it won’t help fix the battery more solidly.
I have eventually sorted mine in a fashion in that I still have no antenna but if place everything right next to my router it works. I can charge it though when I connect but now it tells me it’s overcharged. The batteries are brand new and Samsung 35E so I have no doubt that will settle down. The only issue I have is that I now require a firmware update but though everything is set up next to the router my phone with it, it hasn’t up dated from the original version v.1.0.1 etc and the battery keeps going to sleep so what do you do to keep it on and connected?
sorry for my late reply and about this problem on the connector.
It took me a long time to figure this out because there has been different batches that were sent directly to the warehouses from the factory and it took me a while to actually receive one myself with the issue that you are facing.
The problem on this part is that there is a little plastic part that forbids the male connector to enter deeply enough.
Fortunately, it is very easy to break it with the screw driver that you have in the kit (using the hex bit used to tighten the pack). You can even do it while the battery is mounted and On as these two pins are the communication and can be shorted and are low power.
Once you do this, the connector can be inserted fully and then all works well (I have tested myself and multiple customers confirm).
Apologies fo this bad surprise. I was so eager to deliver this part which was highly demanded that I couldn’t check it properly in China and I missed this part.
All sorted, though I have now fitted a Bosch style neoprene cover to the battery which offers a little insulation and protection plus it tones down the rather ‘in your face’ bright aluminium look. First ride out tomorrow but I’m chicken and my Bosch battery will be in my pannier bags. No I’m not seriously bothered it’s just that I’m disabled and my legs give way without warning and though I often cycle without power it much depends on how my spine is behaving at any particular moment.
